The Story Behind EYKR – A Bunad Shoe Made for Comfort

When Andreas Malo Dyb was 13, he dreamed of designing shoes. That dream took him to Milan to study industrial design and later to his first job—assembling soles at Dale Skofabrikk. One of the shoes he worked on was the Bjørgvin bunad shoe. It was there he kept hearing the same question:
“Why isn’t there a comfortable bunad shoe?”

That question stuck with him. Over the years, Andreas watched bunad culture change. More and more people swapped their traditional bunad shoes for sneakers on May 17th and other big occasions. The demand for a comfortable bunad shoe was obvious. Yet, no one had made one.

Determined to fix this, Andreas spent 17 years researching, testing, and designing.

The Birth of EYKR

After years of testing materials and designs, he found the answer—EYKR. Named after the Old Norse word for “increase”, EYKR was created to increase comfort without changing tradition.

Traditional bunad shoes have hard leather soles and little support, making them tough to wear all day. EYKR is different. It has a jogger sole, inspired by modern sneakers, to give better shock absorption and comfort.

But a soft sole wasn’t enough. The upper is made from 3D-knitted Merino wool, a material that is breathable, temperature-regulating, and soft. Unlike stiff leather, it keeps feet comfortable in any weather.

And the best part? EYKR is machine washable. The removable aluminum buckle keeps the classic look but makes cleaning easier.
